Healing Through Art is a collaborative effort between McLaren Flint, Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Flint Institute of Arts dedicated to the promotion of healing for cancer patients through the creative visual arts process. This is a free resource for cancer patients and their caregivers.
Art Therapy is an established mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of people. Through the art making process, art therapists assist their clients in using their artwork as a reflective tool.
Art Therapy is used with adults, families, and groups to assess and treat:
-Anxiety, depression, and other mental/emotional problems
-Family and relationship problems
-Social/emotional difficulties related to disability or illness
-Personal trauma and loss
Genesee Health Plan is a proud community partner of the Art Therapy Program and the services it provides to patients that are cost free and help patients to cope with cancer. For more information about the program, call Erin Keith at 810-342-4206, or click here to be directed to their website.
