On Wednesday, May 30, 2019, Sovita Credit Union presented a check to Genesee Health Plan to purchase uniforms and clean clothes for Flint Area Schools students in need. Through the Crim Fitness Foundation Community Education Initiative School-Based Program for the Flint Community Schools, GHP provides Community Health Workers (CHWs) in each of the Flint Area Schools.

CHWs assist community members by helping identify and eliminate barriers to accessing health care, assisting in applying or reapplying for health coverage (including GHP and Medicaid), connecting families with a medical home and community resources. CHWs also conduct assessments with community members to help identify any other needs that a family or student may have, including having a uniform or clean clothes for school. It was because of this identified need that Sovita Credit Union stepped in to partner with GHP for this special project.
If you or your organization are interested in partnering or donating to the clothing/uniform drive, please contact Melody Relerford at Genesee Health Plan by calling 810-339-6394 ext. 248.
