Healthcare Marketplace


You may qualify for assistance to lower the cost of monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs on private insurance plans based on your household size and income. Some people with very low incomes may pay very small premiums — or no premiums at all.

You can apply for Marketplace insurance as soon as November 1, 2016. Coverage can begin as soon as January 1, 2017.

Key Deadlines

November 1, 2016

Open Enrollment starts.
First day to enroll or change your 2017 insurance plan. Coverage can start as soon as January 1, 2017

December 15, 2016

Last day to enroll or change plans for new coverage to begin January 1, 2017

January 1, 2017

2017 coverage starts for those who enroll or change plans by December 15, 2016

January 15, 2017

Last day to enroll or change plans for new coverage to start February 1, 2017

January 31, 2017

Open Enrollment ends. Enrollment or changes between January 16 and 31 take effect March 1, 2017

If you do not enroll in a 2017 health insurance plan by January 31, 2017 you can not enroll in a health insurance plan for 2017 unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Examples of Special Enrollment Qualifications are:

  • Loss of health coverage
  • Change in household size
  • Change in residence (zip code)
  • Citizenship status change
  • Release from incarceration
  • Marriage

* SEP are valid within 60 days of change
