Genesee County Board of Commissioners Approves Health Care Services Millage Renewal for November Ballot

Genesee Health Plan Has Served One in Four County Residents Over 25 Years

FLINT – The Genesee County Board of Commissioners approved placing the Health Care Services Millage renewal on the Nov. 3, 2026, ballot at a special meeting on Friday, June 26.

The millage provides funding to Genesee Health Plan for basic, affordable health care coverage for Genesee County residents age 19 and older — including those who don’t qualify for Medicaid but can’t afford private insurance, those employed without employer-sponsored coverage, those between jobs, and young adults aging off a parent’s or guardian’s plan at 26.

“One in four Genesee County residents has received care through Genesee Health Plan over the past 25 years,” said Jim Milanowski, President and Chief Executive Officer. “GHP serves as a coverage bridge during common life transitions and provides health care coverage for our family, friends, and neighbors when they need it most.”

GHP covers doctor visits, mental health counseling, prescription drugs, labs, mammograms, and cancer screenings and treatment, as well as dental care for seniors, veterans, and adults.

“Genesee Health Plan was built here, is funded here, and is governed here,” Milanowski said. “Every decision about how it operates is made by people who live and work in Genesee County. It’s important to note that this is a renewal of an existing millage that voters have approved three times before.”

Voters approved the Health Care Services Millage in 2006, 2012, and 2018.
