FLINT – The Genesee Health Plan (GHP) recognized local health care champions for their commitment to increasing access to quality health care in Genesee County during the 2017 Health Care Hall of Fame Awards on Monday, March 27. GHP honored State Representative Phil Phelps (D-Flushing) as the 2017 Health Care Hall of Fame Inductee for Visionary Leadership.
“It is a privilege to recognize Rep. Phelps as a health care champion in our community, and especially for his leadership during the Flint Water Crisis,” said Jim Milanowski, GHP President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are honored to induct Rep. Phelps into the GHP Hall of Fame as well as honoring the amazing health care professionals and organizations in our community who continue to support GHP and the community we serve.”
As a champion for GHP, Rep. Phelps has been a strong voice for affordable, accessible, high quality health care throughout his career. Rep. Phelps played a leading role in the passage of GHP’s millage in 2006 by serving as a spokesperson for the ballot initiative. He also served on GHP’s Millage Steering Committee in 2012. Rep. Phelps has spent the last year working with Governor Snyder’s administration on Flint Water and helped create a bill which passed unanimously in January 2016 that provided $28 million in assistance for Flint residents.
