Flint, Mich — In May, President Trump announced a proposed budget that included an 800 billion dollar cut to Medicaid.
According to the Congressional Budget Office enacting the American Health Care Act would reduce the federal deficit by 119 billion dollars but, it would also leave more than 23 million people uninsured.
We spoke to the President of Genesee Health Plan that tells us that thousands of people who were recently insured through the Affordable Care Act could lose coverage and that’s where non-profits like theirs step up to fill the gap.
“If the budget is cut there could be less dollars coming from the federal government to Michigan. The state will have to decide how it is going to cover all the people on Medicaid with less dollars,” said Jim Milanowski.
Milanowski encourages people to call their lawmakers to talk about the issue whether the are for or against cuts.
