FLINT TOWNSHIP (WJRT) – (10/13/17) – Following President Trump’s signing of an executive order that he says “will expand choices and alternatives to Obamacare plans and increase competition,” some health industry advocates have responded by saying it will make it harder for certain people to access the care they need.
Jim Milanowski, president and CEO of Genesee Health Plan, said 13,000 people in Genesee County are enrolled in a policy through the Affordable Care Act — part of about 300,000 people statewide.
The president’s stop-payment order means the government won’t be on the hook for $7 billion in subsidies for people with individual policies. Now those signing up for health care on the exchange will have that amount added to their costs.
“When shopping around for premiums, it will then give them what their subsidy is and then what the final amount is that they’re responsible for,” Milanowski said.
