Genesee Health Plan announces new Senior Dental Program

Program aims to connect Genesee County seniors and veterans with preventive dental services

FLINTGenesee Health Plan (GHP) announces a new, free Senior Dental Program for Genesee County residents age 60 or older. The program aims to provide dental coverage to Genesee County seniors and veterans who don’t have access to dental coverage.

“There are many seniors and veterans in our community who have medical coverage but don’t have dental coverage, and our new Senior Dental Program helps fill this gap in coverage by connecting seniors with a dental home,” said Corey Taylor, GHP Dental Health Coordinator. “A healthy mouth is key to healthy aging and we want to make sure seniors and veterans across Genesee County have the dental care they need.”

Dental coverage benefits include cleanings, oral exams, x-rays, cancer screenings and dental health education. Through GHP’s new program, seniors and veterans can receive coverage and select a provider through Delta Dental. Seniors and veterans who do not have any other dental coverage and meet eligibility requirements and income guidelines will qualify for the program.

“Good dental care and oral hygiene are essential to good long-term health, and GHP’s new Senior Dental Program is a huge step forward in making sure Genesee County seniors and veterans have access to quality dental care,” said Raymond Gist, DDS, GHP Board Member, and former American Dental Association President. “I encourage seniors who don’t have dental coverage to reach out to GHP to find out if they qualify for services.”

Seniors and veterans interested in enrolling in coverage can stop by GHP’s office at 2171 S. Linden Road, Flint between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and need to bring a photo I.D. or driver’s license, social security card and proof of all household income.

Genesee Health Plan (GHP) is Genesee County’s plan for better health which began with the vision to have a community where each person has equal and affordable opportunity to live a healthy life. GHP is a nonprofit health care organization that was launched in 2001 to fulfill its vision by providing health care coverage and life-saving services to the uninsured residents of Genesee County.  The plan has provided more than 90,000 county residents with doctor’s visits, cancer screenings, prescription drugs, x-rays and many more life-saving services since 2001.  GHP is still here, working hard to make it easier for Genesee County residents to get health care coverage.  Many individuals do not know when they’re going to need health care coverage, Genesee Health Plan is there to help them when they need it most.  Learn more about GHP at geneseehealthplan.org or call 844.232.7740 to schedule an appointment.
