Your Guide to GHP: Does GHP Provide Health Care Services?

A common question we receive from our members is, “What is the difference between health coverage and health care?” Health care coverage is the method of paying for health care services you receive from a health care provider, like your doctor, a clinic or a hospital. The Genesee Health Plan (GHP) provides health care coverage to its members, so they can see a doctor, receive preventative care or get a prescription filled.

Here in Genesee County, we are fortunate to have a strong network of community health resources and partners that are committed to the overall health of Genesee County residents. At GHP, we help our members get connected to health care resources within the community, so they can receive the best care and resources- – making them healthier and happier.  While we don’t provide onsite health care services to our members, we do connect them with the following independent organizations:

  • Genesee Health System: The Genesee Health System provides mental health services to Genesee County residents. This organization helps individuals with serious mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities and substance use disorders.
  • Genesee Community Health Center: The Genesee Community Health Center provides health care services for anyone in needed, regardless of the type of insurance or coverage the individual has. Genesee Community Health Center provides health screenings, Well-Child visits, physicals, onsite mental health services, x-rays and care for diabetes, asthma, blood pressure and high cholesterol.
  • Genesys Health System, Hurley Medical Center and McLaren Flint: Genesys Health System, Hurley Medical Center and McLaren Flint are three hospitals that offer primary and specialty health care services for Genesee County residents. From family medicine to women’s health to cancer care, these three hospitals provide health care for individuals of all ages.
  • Genesee County Health Department: The Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) is committed to promoting public health in the community and preventing disease. GCHD offers clinics, immunizations and a variety of support services.
  • Hamilton Community Health Network: Hamilton Community Health Network provides primary health care services for adults and children, as well as a number of services including health screenings, care for injuries and illnesses and care for chronic conditions, including diabetes, asthma and heart disease.

Genesee County residents come to GHP when they need help enrolling in health coverage and finding health care services in the community. We are committed to helping residents navigate community health care resources so they can have access to the quality care they need.
