FLINT – Genesee Health Plan and President and CEO Jim Milanowski received the University of Michigan-Flint’s (UM-Flint) 2020 Agho Community Partner Award for their continued partnership with the university’s College of Health Sciences and outstanding service to Genesee County and its residents.
“I am privileged and honored to accept the Agho Community Partner Award on behalf of Genesee Health Plan,” Milanowski said. “We value our incredible partnership with UM-Flint’s College of Health Sciences. From academic research to student volunteers and internships, we’re thankful for the continued partnership that has had an invaluable impact on the Genesee County community. We thank UM-Flint for their continued support and partnership and look forward to the many projects and collaborations we will work on in the future.”
GHP has worked collaboratively with UM-Flint’s College of Health Sciences since 2003. In 2006, UM-Flint’s College of Health Sciences, in partnership with GHP, started the Urban Health and Wellness Center (UHWC) – a primary care clinic at the UM-Flint campus – to help provide critical health care and physical therapy services to thousands of GHP members and community residents. The Urban Health and Wellness Center closed in 2015.
“The Urban Health and Wellness Center exemplified a true collaboration between the university and the Genesee Health Plan, our community partner,” said Donna Fry, dean of UM-Flint’s College of Health Sciences. “The UHWC specifically designed its services – nurse managed primary care and physical therapy – to meet the needs of the population served by the Genesee Health Plan. The center provided an excellent clinical learning experience for our students to work side-by-side with our clinical faculty to meet health care needs in our community.”
The Agho Award is named after Dr. Austin Agho, who served as founding dean of the School of Health Professions and Studies at UM-Flint from 2001 to 2008.
