GHP Staff Take a Stand Against Child Abuse and Neglect

April 6, 2022

April is child abuse and neglect awareness month and this year, GHP partnered with Michigan Children’s Trust Fund and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan by placing a blue pinwheel garden outside of the GHP office to generate awareness and to show our support. On average, 1 in 10 children in the U.S. are victims of abuse. In Genesee County, 1 in 4 children are victims of abuse. Help show your support by sharing on your social media and having conversations with your family and friends.

Voices for Children is a great local resource and community partner that serves as a voice and an advocate for children throughout Genesee and Shiawassee Counties. Voices for Children Advocacy Center serves (1) child victims of abuse and neglect and their families (including human trafficking), (2) with prevention for children in Genesee and Shiawassee Counties, and (3) advocacy for the well-being of the child. For more information about Voices for Children visit https://www.voicesforcac.org/.

Did you know, In the spring of 1989, a grandmother from Virginia began the blue-ribbon campaign as a tribute to her grandson, a three-year old who died at the hands of his mother’s abusive boyfriend? Since 1989, blue represents support against child abuse and neglect, which is why the pinwheel garden is blue. To close out our support against child abuse and neglect this month, GHP staff will wear blue on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, to coincide with the State of Michigan’s Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Day. We would like for you to join us and wear blue too!
