In last week’s “Your Guide to GHP” article, we shared the history of Genesee Health Plan and explained how our coverage is different from other health care coverage options. This week we’re diving into who we cover.
Genesee Health Plan provides quality health coverage for Genesee County residents over the age of 19 (including people over 65 who do not qualify for Medicare) who don’t have any other health coverage and meet our income requirements. If you’re wondering if you qualify for Genesee Health Plan coverage, here’s a closer look at the people we help:
People who don’t receive health care coverage from their employer
There are many hard-working people – some who work two or three jobs – who don’t receive health care coverage from their employer. To qualify for Genesee Health Plan individuals must earn $23,517 or less to qualify for coverage under Genesee Health Plan.
People who lost their jobs
You can’t prepare to lose a job. If you recently became unemployed, you may qualify for Genesee Health Plan. We believe that no one should be without health care coverage, so we encourage anyone who recently lost a job to contact us to learn about their coverage options.
People who don’t qualify for other health care coverage, including seniors
People may not be able to afford to pay for health care coverage out of their pocket if their employer does not offer it. There are also many people who do not qualify for coverages like Medicaid or Medicare. For example: A person may have worked for a church or faith-based organization and have not worked enough time to qualify for Medicare. In this case, this individual could qualify for Genesee Health Plan if they meet our income requirements. Additionally, GHP also has a special senior dental program for seniors who do not have a dental benefit.
