The emPOWER Genesee Program helps Flint and Genesee County residents and families connect with utility assistance and resources, including:

  • Applying for health coverage-No one should be without health coverage or insurance
  • Utility/energy bill
  • Food and clothing
  • Transportation
  • Flint Registry enrollment (Flint Water Crisis/lead exposure)
  • Financial education

emPOWER Genesee Program is supported by Consumers Energy, Ascension Genesys, and Huntington Bank.

Community Navigator Locations

A Community Navigator is available on the following days and locations:

  • Mondays and Thursdays: Consumers Energy Payment Center-3201 E. Court Street, Flint
  • Tuesdays and Fridays: Ascension Genesys Downtown Clinic-420 S. Saginaw Street, Flint
  • Wednesdays: Genesee Health Plan (GHP)-2171 S. Linden Road, Flint
  • 4th Thursday of the Month: Clio Safety Net Store from 3-5pm-116 S. Mill Street, Clio

Genesee Health Plan client called Community Navigator because they were unable to get their medications from the pharmacy, which stated was not covered by the GHP Formulary. Community Navigator worked with the pharmacy and discovered that the client was prescribed an allergy medication that is also over the counter. The pharmacist said the client could substitute with 2 capsules of OTC medication. Community Navigator informed client and mailed client a GoodRX card which saved the client $50 on prescriptions.

Community Navigator completed a Medicaid application for a gentleman that was released from Prison in October of 2020. Client contracted COVID-19 the same week and was hospitalized at Ascension Genesys Hospital. Hospital employee gave client an emPOWER Genesee flyer. Client called Community Navigator and was able to get client’s Medicaid approved with the help Genesee Health Plan MDHHS worker. Client went home that same week and was approved for the Food Assistance Program through MDHHS.
