Genesee Health Plan provides vaccinations at eighth annual ‘Flu Drive-Thru Vaccine’ event

Event also provided COVID-19 vaccinations and health care information to Genesee County residents

FLINTGenesee Health Plan (GHP) provided over 130 vaccinations to county residents at its eighth annual Flu Drive-Thru Vaccine event on Friday, Oct. 8.

“Over the past eight years, we have seen this event transform into a family-oriented outing,” said Jim Milanowski, president, and CEO of GHP. “This year, a majority of the attendees were families coming to get their flu vaccine together, continuing the tradition of this being an intergenerational event and experience.”

Genesee County residents began lining up at 1:30 p.m. to participate in the event by rolling down their window and rolling up their sleeve to receive the flu vaccine from their vehicle. Walgreens and the Genesee County Health Department provided flu vaccines and the Genesee Community Health Center mobile unit was also on site providing COVID-19 vaccinations. The National Center for African American Health Consciousness provided gift cards to some families who were vaccinated at the event together.

Vaccinations are covered by the Genesee Health Plan, Healthy Michigan Plan (Medicaid), and the HealthCare.Gov Marketplace (ACA).

“This annual event and its success would not be possible without the support of our incredible community partners.” “We are grateful to our partners who continue to provide support and resources to Genesee County residents that assist them in making informed decisions, considering what’s best for them and their family,” said E. Yvonne Lewis, director of outreach at GHP.

The Flu Drive-Thru Vaccine event was also supported by Hamilton Community Health Network, Health Alliance Plan, Healthy Flint Research Coordinating Center, Hurley Medical Center, MICEAL (Michigan Communities Conquering COVID-19), National Center for African American Health Consciousness and Sanofi Pasteur.

“Genesee Health Plan is an invaluable resource to Genesee County through the health care coverage it provides and by working with community partners each year to provide a unique and fun event for families to receive their flu vaccine”, said Rep. Tim Sneller, who attended the event. “I fully support the work of the health plan and I always look forward to attending this event each year so I too can receive my flu vaccine.”
