Health Care Services Millage


Genesee Health Plan receives funding through the county “Health Care Services Millage” to provide health care coverage and case management/health navigation to members, and dental coverage for seniors and veterans.

Health care coverage is provided to uninsured residents of Genesee County who:

  • Work one, two or even three jobs but are not offered health insurance by their employer
  • Seasonal/temporary employees
  • Lost their jobs
  • Don’t qualify for other health coverage
  • Seniors who don’t qualify for Medicare

The Health Care Services Millage was first approved by voters in 2006, renewed in 2012 and renewed again in 2018 by voters with 65% approval. The Health Care Services Millage is up for renewal again in 2026. Below is information regarding the specific details of the millage.

  • Property tax amount:  0.998 mills, which is about $50 per year for homeowners with a home valued at $100,000
  • Estimated amount millage would generate each year:  Approximately $9 million per year
  • Duration: 7 years

Transparency and Accountability:

  • To ensure taxpayer funds are spent wisely and transparently, all millage dollars are publicly disclosed and reported and go through an independent financial audit every year.
  • GHP also makes yearly public reports and disclosures to the Genesee Health Plan Board of Directors and the Genesee County Board of Commissioners.
